Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is a first-person shooter video game published by Activision. Developed by Sledgehammer Games, it is a direct sequel to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, released in 2022. The game consists of three main modes: Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies. The campaign mode centers on Captain Price and Task Force 141’s efforts to stop Vladimir Makarov, who poses a global threat. The narrative continues directly from the events of Modern Warfare II and revisits characters and storylines familiar from earlier entries in the series. With this game, a new mechanic called “Open Combat Missions” has been introduced, diverging from the series’ traditional cinematic and linear mission structure. These missions grant players the freedom to develop diverse strategies to reach objectives across expansive maps. Players can complete missions through stealth-oriented approaches or direct confrontation. This design enables players to shape their own playstyle by utilizing weapons, equipment, and vehicles found in the environment. Additionally, the “No Russian” mission from the original Modern Warfare 2 (2009) is reimagined in this game with a different context and setting.

The multiplayer mode of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III offers rich content to celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary. At launch, all 16 maps from the 2009 game Modern Warfare 2 were reintroduced with modernized graphics and updated gameplay mechanics. These maps can be played in classic modes such as Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Search and Destroy. Additionally, new “Ground War” maps designed for large-scale battles and an enhanced version of the “War Mode” introduced in Call of Duty: WWII form integral parts of the multiplayer experience. Following launch, twelve entirely new 6v6 maps are planned to be added through seasonal updates. Adjustments to movement mechanics and weapon handling create a distinct gameplay dynamic compared to previous titles.

This game introduces the first Zombies mode in the Modern Warfare series. Developed by Treyarch and named “Modern Warfare Zombies” (MWZ), it features the largest Zombies map in the series’ history. This open-world mode delivers a player-versus-environment (PvE) experience in which players cooperate with other teams to survive against hordes of zombies. Players battle zombie armies across the massive map while completing objectives, utilizing core Zombies mechanics, and uncovering hidden secrets scattered throughout the environment. The mode features a unique narrative tied to the Dark Aether storyline. Unlike traditional Zombies modes, this iteration emphasizes broader exploration and cooperative gameplay elements.
