Borsa İstanbul İslahiye Fen Lisesi

Borsa İstanbul İslahiye Fen Lisesi is a secondary education institution operating in the İslahiye district of Gaziantep Province. It is a public school under the authority of the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of National Education and operates as a science high school with the aim of developing competent individuals in the fields of natural sciences and mathematics. The institution began its educational activities in the 2010-2011 academic year under the name İslahiye Anatolian Teacher High School, with two classrooms and 60 students. Due to renovation works at the Ibni Sina Anatolian High School annex building, the school initially conducted its classes on the second floor of Şehit İsmet Kayar Primary School until it moved to its assigned building on 4 April 2011.

At the end of the 2012-2013 academic year, the physical capacity of the school was expanded when the building previously used by the District National Education Directorate was transferred to the institution. As part of the transformation of teacher high schools, the school adopted the name İslahiye Science High School in the 2014-2015 academic year. On 9 February 2015, the institution relocated to its new building in Değirmencik Neighborhood and commenced its operations there.^【2】

Borsa İstanbul İslahiye Fen Lisesi is a project school under the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of National Education. Its institutional governance is based on the principles of participatory consultation and scientific rationality. The institution is managed in accordance with its strategic plan for the 2024-2028 period, which aims to enhance academic achievement, develop institutional capacity, and maximize student access. Students wishing to benefit from the school’s boarding facility must meet specific application criteria; those who are scholarship recipients or have limited financial means may apply for free boarding. Applications for boarding require documentation including a family financial status declaration, a certificate confirming no disciplinary sanctions, and a health report.^【6】

The institution is located on an independent 21-dönüm plot of land along the Hatay Road in Değirmencik Neighborhood, allocated by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of National Education. The campus includes a four-story school building, an indoor sports hall, and separate boarding facilities for male and female students.

The school building contains a total of 24 classrooms. Laboratory facilities include physics, chemistry, and biology laboratories. Technological infrastructure comprises an information technology classroom (IT classroom), 20 smart boards, and an internet connection with a speed of 16 Mbps. Additional physical facilities include a library with 3,012 books, a music classroom, an art classroom, a conference hall, a clinic, and a dining hall.^【7】

According to strategic plan data, the student population is listed as 363 (211 female, 152 male), though current web records indicate fluctuations between 443 and 508 students. The majority of students come from surrounding provinces and districts outside İslahiye, including Gaziantep, Kahramanmaraş, Osmaniye, Hatay, and Kilis. The current boarding facility has a capacity of 208 students, with 32 male and 176 female students; students exceeding this capacity reside in nearby boarding facilities.^【8】

Students have achieved various rankings and championships at district and provincial levels in basketball, volleyball, badminton, and tennis. In cultural activities, the school has won first prizes in book reading competitions and composition and essay contests on the theme of 15 July. As part of scientific development, the school organizes the annual 4006 TÜBİTAK Science Fair.^【9】

As a project school, Borsa İstanbul İslahiye Fen Lisesi actively follows national and international initiatives. Within the school, eTwinning projects are implemented, and student participation in international project networks is supported.
