BMC Altuğ

BMC Altuğ is a new generation 8x8 wheeled armored fighting vehicle (AFV) developed by the Turkish defense industry company BMC Otomotiv Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş.. Designed to meet the evolving operational requirements of the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) and other potential users, it stands out for its high tactical and strategic mobility, effective firepower, superior survivability, and modular structure. The Altuğ is not only capable of fulfilling armored personnel carrier (APC) roles but is also designed as a versatile platform that can be configured for various missions including combat, command and control, reconnaissance, and air defense.

The development of the Altuğ began with a contract signed between the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) and BMC under the New Generation Armored Vehicles (NGAV) project. BMC’s extensive experience in armored vehicle design and manufacturing played a crucial role in the Altuğ’s development. The vehicle is built on a modular platform that allows integration of various subsystems and weapon systems tailored to different mission requirements.

Personnel safety is the primary focus of the Altuğ’s design. The vehicle provides high-level ballistic and mine protection. Its hull structure is designed to meet different protection levels according to the STANAG 4569 standard. Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with nuclear, biological, and chemical (NBC) threat protection systems.

Thanks to its modular design, the Altuğ platform can be adapted into multiple variants for different missions. Potential variants include:

• Combat Vehicle: A variant equipped with high firepower for direct engagement with enemy forces.
• Command and Control Vehicle: A variant equipped with communication and information systems required for unit command and operational management.
• Mortar Carrier: Designed to transport and provide fire support with mortar systems.
• Air Defense Vehicle: A variant equipped with low-altitude air defense systems.
• Recovery Vehicle: Used for recovering and repairing damaged vehicles.
