Balıkesir Atatürk Stadium

Balıkesir Atatürk Stadium, located in the Altıeylül district of Balıkesir, is one of the city’s largest sports facilities. Founded in 1939, it was opened for service in 1953. Initially hosting matches for amateur and youth teams, it became the home ground for Balıkesirspor starting from the 1967–68 season.

The Balıkesir Atatürk Stadium underwent comprehensive renovation works in 2010 and 2014, increasing its spectator capacity and installing new lighting systems. On 16 February 2014, the match between Balıkesirspor and Gaziantep Büyükşehir Belediyespor became the stadium’s first night match.

The stadium has a capacity of 13,732 spectators and meets TFF standards. With a natural grass pitch measuring 105×68 metres, it is suitable for hosting matches in the Süper Lig, 1. Lig, and 2. Lig.

The stadium has undergone modernization processes in 1973, 2010 and 2014. As part of the 2010 renovation, the 500-metre athletics track was removed, stands were expanded and capacity was increased.

The Balıkesir Atatürk Stadium features a natural grass surface and has been adapted for various sports events. It hosted track cycling competitions during the 1971 Mediterranean Games and was also used as a velodrome.

The design incorporates the colors of Balıkesirspor—red and white—and includes facilities such as changing rooms, training areas and various auxiliary structures for athletes.

The stadium offers numerous amenities including accessible design, parking, a market and social areas. It provides a suitable viewing area for families and large groups. Additionally, due to its proximity to the city center, it is easily accessible by public transportation.

The lighting systems installed in 2014 enabled night matches to be held, making the stadium one of the most modern sports facilities in the region.

The Balıkesir Atatürk Stadium hosts not only Balıkesirspor matches but also national holiday celebrations and various sporting events. In particular, the 2013–14 season, when Balıkesirspor was promoted to the Süper Lig, is regarded as one of the most significant periods in the stadium’s history.
