The bench became widely known after Turkish footballer Arda Turan shared a photograph of himself sitting on it during his time playing for FC Barcelona.

During his time in Barcelona, Arda Turan shared a photo on social media of himself sitting on the bench in front of the Japanese restaurant Parco, after having dinner there. This post quickly attracted widespread attention, and the bench became a point of interest for Turkish tourists.

Over time, the bench came to be known as the “Arda Turan Bench” and became an important stop for Turkish tourists visiting Barcelona. Additionally, it has been marked on Google Maps as “The bench where Arda Turan sat” and “Historic Arda Turan Bench,” securing its place on digital maps.

In January 2025, it was officially announced that as part of landscaping works initiated in the Jardinets de Gràcia area, all urban furniture including the current bench would be replaced, and the “Arda Turan Bench” would be removed.

On 10 January 2025, footballer Arda Turan shared a photo of himself sitting on a bench in Athens via his Instagram story, addressing his followers with the words: “I found my own Arda Turan bench in Athens. Can you find the location now?” This post sparked a new public debate and generated various speculations about whether a new “Arda Turan Bench” legend would emerge in Athens.
