Ahmet Nuri Baydar was a lawyer, mayor, and member of parliament born in Yozgat in 1866. He held various positions within the judiciary system for many years and served as Mayor of Yozgat from 1905 to 1918. During the National Struggle he supported the Kuvay-ı Milliye and served as a deputy for Yozgat in the First Grand National Assembly of Türkiye. He passed away on 18 December 1940.

Ahmet Nuri Bey was born in Yozgat in 1866. He completed his primary education at a Sıbyan Mektebi and his secondary education at the Yozgat Rüştiyesi.

Ahmet Nuri Baydar served in various capacities within the judiciary system for twenty-one years. He held positions such as court clerk at the Yozgat Bidayet Court, execution officer, member of the Heavy Crimes Court, and prosecutor. He also served as assistant inquiry judge in the Zir district and held several judgeships in courts in Ankara.

In 1905 he was elected Mayor of Yozgat and held this position until 1918. In 1919 he played an active role in the establishment of the Müdafaa-i Hukuk Cemiyeti in Yozgat.

Ahmet Nuri Bey was elected as a deputy for Yozgat to the First Term of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye in 1920. Within the Assembly he was a member of the First Group. He served on committees for Interior Affairs, Economics, Financial Regulations, Audit Examination, Public Works, Financial Balance, Claims and Drafts, and acted as secretary of the Financial Regulations Committee. He also served on the Temporary Financial Balance Committee.

He actively participated in numerous votes in the Assembly and generally voted in favor of proposals. He signed five legislative bills, three of which were adopted. He also submitted amendment proposals to various bills and prepared memoranda, most of which concerned the Assembly’s Internal Regulations and military and judicial matters.

Among the key issues bearing his signature during his legislative activity were the powers of the Commander-in-Chief, the granting of the title of gazi, the amnesty of certain convicts, and various budget laws. He is recorded as having spoken only once during his time in the Assembly.

Ahmet Nuri Bey was an active figure particularly in local organization and Müdafaa-i Hukuk activities. For his contributions to the Kuvay-ı Milliye, he was awarded the Green Ribbon İstiklal Medal on 24 October 1923. He served as Director of Settlement in Ankara in 1924 and in Yozgat in 1926, retiring in 1928.

Ahmet Nuri Baydar spent his retirement in the village of Şeref, under the jurisdiction of Yozgat, and passed away on 18 December 1940. He was married and the father of eight children.
