Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu is a Turkish physician and academic. He is known for his work in medical pharmacology and his roles in university administration. On 16 August 2024, he was appointed Rector of Atatürk Üniversitesi by a presidential decree published in the Official Gazette.^【1】

Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu was born on 26 September 1975 in the Çaykara district of Trabzon. Due to his father’s academic appointment, the family moved to Erzurum later that same year, where he completed his primary, secondary (Anadolu High School), and high school (Erzurum Science High School) education. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Istanbul University Çapa in 1999.

Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu is married to Esra Hacımüftüoğlu. Esra Hacımüftüoğlu, mother of three children, has served as a Doctoral Lecturer in the Tafsir Department of the Faculty of Theology at Atatürk University since 2015.^【2】

Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu’s father, Prof. Dr. Nasrullah Hacımüftüoğlu, served for many years as Dean, Department Head, and Faculty Member at Atatürk University’s Faculty of Theology and currently serves as Dean of the Faculty of Theology at Bayburt Üniversitesi.^【3】

After completing his medical education, Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu entered the specialization program in Medical Pharmacology at Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine and completed his specialization in 2003. He was appointed Assistant Professor that same year, Associate Professor in 2007, and Professor in February 2013.

In 2005, with support from TÜBİTAK, he spent 1.5 years at the Faculty of Medicine of Ohio State University in the United States and the Sensor Technology Center at University of Kentucky, working on his own research project. In 2008, he successfully established Turkey’s first and Europe’s second “In Vivo Voltammetry and Brain Sensor Laboratory” at the Medical Pharmacology Department of Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine. Through three courses held annually, he trained 78 scientists in this new technique.^【4】

During this period, he completed two TÜBİTAK projects and continues to lead and manage the largest TÜBİTAK 1003 Project ever awarded to Atatürk University, involving 36 researchers from four universities with a budget of 2,984,000.00 TL.^【5】

His accolades include awards from various scientific organizations and congresses, 494 scientific publications indexed in SCI and SCI-E, 2,630 citations, 22 patents, and Türkiye’s first drug patent application with an active ingredient originating in the country.^【6】

Since 2013, he has served on the TÜBİTAK Teydeb Biotechnology Executive Committee; since 2014, as a member of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Society for Brain Research and Neurosciences (TÜBAS); and since 2015, as a member of the Board of Directors of Atatürk University Faculty of Pharmacy.

Ahmet Hacımüftüoğlu continues his role as a faculty member in the Medical Pharmacology Department at Atatürk Üniversitesi. On 16 August 2024, he was appointed Rector of Atatürk Üniversitesi by a presidential decree published in the Official Gazette.^【7】

In addition to his rectorship, he continues to serve as a faculty member and Head of the Medical Pharmacology Department at Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine.
