Agreement (Film)

The Covenant (Original title: Guy Ritchie's The Covenant) is a war action and thriller film released in 2023, co-produced by the United Kingdom Spain and the United States. The screenplay was written by Guy Ritchie Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies. The film centers on the bond and struggle for survival between an American soldier and a local interpreter during the Afghanistan War 2001–2021.

The story begins with a patrol operation in Afghanistan being ambushed by local militia forces. The two survivors are Staff Sergeant John Kinley and interpreter Ahmed. Ahmed rescues the wounded Kinley by carrying him for miles and evading enemy lines. After recovering and returning to the United States Kinley discovers that the promised U.S. visa for Ahmed and his family has not been granted and that they are in grave danger. Faced with official inaction Kinley undertakes a personal mission to return to Afghanistan and rescue Ahmed and his family.

• Staff Sergeant John Kinley (Jake Gyllenhaal): Leader of a U.S. unit deployed in Afghanistan. He survives a deadly attack on his unit during his final tour and is rescued by interpreter Ahmed who brings him to safety. Upon returning to the United States he learns that the promised visa for Ahmed has not been honored and launches a personal rescue mission.
• Ahmed (Dar Salim): A local interpreter serving with John Kinley’s unit. After the unit is ambushed he rescues the wounded Kinley through treacherous terrain and enemy lines. As a result of this act he and his family become targets.
• Caroline Kinley (Emily Beecham): John Kinley’s wife.
• Colonel Vokes (Jonny Lee Miller): A senior officer in Kinley’s unit.
• Steve Kersher (Bobby Schofield): A member of the unit’s technical or operational staff.
• Charlie 'Jizzy' Crow (Sean Sagar): A military personnel under Kinley’s command.
• Joshua 'JJ' Jung (Jason Wong): Another soldier serving in the unit’s operational team.

Other notable members of the cast include Alexander Ludwig and Antony Starr.

The film’s production budget was approximately 55 million dollars and it generated a global box office revenue of 21.948.551 dollars. The cinematography was handled by Ed Wild the editing by James Herbert and the music composed by Christopher Benstead.

The film’s release date in Türkiye underwent several changes. Originally announced for 28 April 2023 the date was first postponed to 12 May 2023 and later updated to “release status uncertain.” Instead of a theatrical release in Türkiye the film premiered digitally on Prime Video. The U.S. release date was 21 April 2023. CJ ENM holds the distribution rights in Türkiye while BG Film handled the import.
