The word "activism" comes from the French term "activisme." This term is derived from the Latin "actus" (meaning movement) combined with the suffix "-isme" (indicating a particular action or system). The idea of activism, meaning "being active" or "taking action," has been used with similar meanings in French and has spread to world languages to refer to social and political engagement.
