Macit Gökberk 1908 yılında Selanik'te Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nda doğmuştur. İstanbul Erkek Lisesi'nde öğrenim görmüştür. 1929-1930 öğretim yılında İstanbul Üniversitesi Edebiyat Fakültesi Felsefe Bölümü'ne öğrenci olarak girmiş, mezun olduktan sonra bölümün ilk asistanı olmuştur. Doktorasını Almanya'da, "Hegel’de ve Auguste Comte’da Toplum Kavramı" başlıklı teziyle Edward Spranger ile birlikte yapmıştır. Macit Gökberk was born in 1908 in Thessaloniki within the Ottoman Empire. He received his education at Istanbul Boys’ High School. In the 1929–1930 academic year, he enrolled as a student in the Department of Philosophy at the Faculty of Letters of Istanbul University and, after graduating, became the department’s first assistant.
