World Miners’ Day is observed annually on 4 December to honor the labor of miners and to remember the challenges and risks they face. The origin of this day traces back to the Roman Empire, when Saint Barbara, who found refuge among miners in İzmit, suffered persecution. By dedicating 4 December to all miners worldwide, Saint Barbara came to be recognized as the patron saint of miners, and this date was adopted by miners as their own day.
