Ayşen Gruda was born in 1944 in the Yeşilköy district of Istanbul as the middle daughter of the Erman family. The house where she was born is known as a kiosk that served as an Ottoman headquarters and was also the place where Halid Ziya Uşaklıgil, one of the most prominent figures in Turkish literature, wrote his works.
