Demokrat Parti’nin ileri gelen milletvekillerinden biri olmuş, 1960 Darbesi sonrası yargılanarak müebbet hapis cezasına çarptırılmış, affın ardından Cumhuriyet Senatosu üyeliğiyle siyasete dönmüştür. Tıp, eğitim ve kamu hizmeti alanlarında uzun soluklu çalışmalarıyla tanınmış ve 1995 yılında vefat etmiştir
