## Article Content

*Yaz Yağmuru* (Summer Rain) is the second edition of a collection of short stories by **Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar**. Published in November 2023 as part of Dergâh Publications' **Turkish Literature** series, the book is 144 pages long and measures 13.5 x 21 cm. The second edition was released in October 2024.

### **Subject**

The book contains six stories, with "[Yaz Yağmuru](/en/detay/yaz-yagmuru-kitap-b1019/llms.txt)" as the main story. In this serial story, [Tanpınar](/en/detay/tanpinar-ahmet-hamdi/llms.txt) stated that his protagonists developed in a way that made them independent, and that the author was, in a way, at their service. The other short stories—including *Teslim* (Surrender), *Acıbadem'deki Köşk* (The Mansion in Acıbadem), *Rüyalar* (Dreams), *Âdem ile Havva* (Adam and Eve), *Bir Tren Yolculuğu* (A Train Journey), and *Yaz Gecesi* (Summer Night)—depict the relationship between identity and destiny that emerges from coincidental encounters.

### **Themes**

- **Identity and Destiny:** The personal stories of the characters, shaped within their own boundaries, are addressed.
- **Coincidence and Story Construction:** The determining nature of striking encounters and subconscious connections are described.
- **Author-Character Dynamic:** Tanpınar's creative approach, which he emphasizes with the words "I was not at my service, but at theirs," is discussed in the narrative.

### **Narration and Style**

Tanpınar writes with a language based on psychological analysis. The phrase "the protagonists came to me, they spoke..." from the story "Yaz Yağmuru" shows a narrative dynamic in which the distance between subjects disappears. The other stories are similarly woven with short, dense, and slightly metaphorical narrative techniques.
