In this climate of chaos, all of Peter’s, MJ’s, and Ned’s university applications—including those to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)—are rejected due to their association with Peter.

Wanting to prevent his friends’ futures from being ruined, Peter travels to the New York Sanctum and asks Doctor Strange (Stephen Strange) to cast a spell that will make everyone in the world forget that he is Spider-Man. As Strange begins the “Forgetfulness Spell,” Peter repeatedly interrupts, insisting that the spell spare MJ, Ned, and Aunt May. Peter’s interference destabilizes the spell, causing its boundaries to collapse and pulling into this universe characters from parallel dimensions who know Peter Parker as Spider-Man.

Characters from different universes—Otto Octavius, Norman Osborn (Green Goblin), Max Dillon (Electro), Flint Marko (Sandman), and Curt Connors (Lizard)—cross over into this dimension. After regaining control of the spell, Doctor Strange seeks to capture the villains and return them to their own universes so they can face their fates. However, Peter, encouraged by Aunt May’s advice, chooses to rehabilitate them before sending them back. Peter steals Strange’s magical container and traps him in the Mirror Dimension, then begins treating the villains. He successfully rehabilitates Otto Octavius, but Norman Osborn’s Green Goblin persona seizes control of his mind and convinces the other villains to betray Peter. During the ensuing battle, the Green Goblin fatally wounds Aunt May; before dying, she tells Peter that “with great power comes great responsibility.”

Meanwhile, Ned uses Strange’s portal ring to locate Peter but accidentally brings with him two other Peter Parkers from alternate universes—portrayed by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. The three Spider-Men—designated “Peter-One,” “Peter-Two,” and “Peter-Three”—join forces to develop antivenoms to cure the remaining villains and lure them to the Statue of Liberty. The trio successfully treats Dillon, Marko, and Connors, while Strange escapes from the Mirror Dimension. During the climactic battle, the enraged Peter-One attempts to kill the Green Goblin, but Peter-Two intervenes and prevents him; Osborn is then successfully treated.

To prevent the complete collapse of the multiverse and the arrival of countless beings from other worlds, Peter asks Strange to cast a final spell that will erase Peter Parker from everyone’s memory entirely. With the spell completed, all visitors from other universes return to their home dimensions (Eddie Brock/Venom leaves behind a fragment of the symbiote in this universe), and Peter Parker is completely forgotten. Two weeks later, Peter visits MJ and Ned, who have resumed their lives normally, but decides not to reveal the truth to them. He resolves to continue his heroic duties alone and anonymously.
