### **Topography and Natural Structure**

Sivrikaya Plateau is situated in the elevations of the Kaçkar Mountains, which are part of the Eastern Black Sea mountain range. The region’s terrain is quite rugged, surrounded by steep slopes, ridges, and high passes. Alpine meadows are prevalent on the surface of the plateau. In the winter and spring months, the area is covered with a thick blanket of snow, while in the summer, it is watered by small streams formed by melting snow.

### **Climate Features**

The predominant climate on the plateau is the humid alpine climate, a subtype of the Black Sea climate seen in mountainous areas. In this climate type, the annual precipitation is quite high, and most of the year is cloudy and cool. During the winter months, the region receives heavy snowfall, and the snow cover remains for an extended period. Summer temperatures are mild; this period allows for pastoral activities.

### **Socio-Cultural Use**

Sivrikaya Plateau is one of the seasonal plateaus traditionally used by the local people in the İkizdere region. It is especially used during the summer months for grazing small and large livestock by communities engaged in animal husbandry. In this respect, the plateau is important as one of the areas where the nomadic lifestyle is maintained.

Although there are some permanent structures on the plateau, temporary shelters for seasonal accommodation are largely preferred. The plateau culture is maintained in the region’s traditional architecture, culinary culture, and oral narratives.

### **Access and Infrastructure**

Access to Sivrikaya Plateau is provided via unpaved and narrow mountain roads from the İkizdere district. During the winter months, these roads are often closed due to snow. The plateau has limited infrastructure; the electricity grid reaches only a few areas, and drinking water is generally sourced locally. Road conditions vary seasonally, making access occasionally challenging.

### **Tourism Potential and Recreational Use**

Sivrikaya Plateau serves as a passage point for some trekking and mountaineering routes leading to the Kaçkar Mountains. The plateau is suitable for nature walks, camping, and high-altitude training due to its physical conditions. However, tourism activities in the region still lack developed infrastructure and organized guidance. This situation has kept the plateau away from mass tourism, allowing it to largely preserve its unique natural structure.
