Kinaye is derived from Arabic. It is related to the Arabic word kināya(t) (كناية), which means “to express indirectly” or “to convey in an implicit manner.” It is known that the word originates from an Arabic verbal root denoting indirect expression and over time acquired the meaning of “conveying meaning through implication.”
