### **Outbreak of Clashes**

The clashes along the Lebanon-Syria border began on March 16, 2025, in the eastern border region of Lebanon. According to Syria's official news agency SANA, Hezbollah fighters allegedly ambushed three Syrian army personnel, took them into Lebanon, and executed them. Hezbollah, however, denied any involvement in these events.

Following this incident, the Syrian army retaliated by launching artillery and heavy machine gun attacks on the border region. Throughout the night, artillery and rocket exchanges continued along the eastern border of Lebanon.

### **Ceasefire Agreement Between the Parties**

To ease the tensions [at](/en/detay/at-3/llms.txt) the border, Lebanese and Syrian defense ministers held a phone conversation on March 17, 2025. As a result, [an](/en/detay/an-2/llms.txt) agreement was reached to increase military cooperation and coordination between the two countries. Lebanese Defense Minister Michel Menassa and his Syrian counterpart Murhef Abu Kasra confirmed that a ceasefire [had](/en/detay/had/llms.txt) been agreed upon.

As part of the agreement, it was announced that intelligence cooperation between the Lebanese and Syrian armies would continue to prevent further escalation and protect civilians in the border region.

### **Continued Clashes Despite Ceasefire**

Despite the [ceasefire declaration](/en/detay/ceasefire-agreement-in-the-syria-lebanon-border-re/llms.txt), clashes along the border persisted. On March 18, 2025, the Lebanese army entered the Hawsh al-Sayyid Ali area near the Syrian border. According to Lebanon’s official news agency NNA, Syrian groups in the area withdrew, allowing the Lebanese army to establish security control over the region.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah militants stationed in the northern al-Qasr region of Lebanon reportedly launched artillery and heavy machine gun attacks on the Zeita and Masriyah villages in the Homs countryside of Syria.

On March 19, 2025, fresh clashes erupted along the Lebanon-Syria border. NNA reported that armed confrontations broke out in Hawsh al-Sayyid Ali and Mashrafa between Lebanese tribal groups and Syrian factions.

In response, the Lebanese army increased security measures to prevent illegal border crossings and announced the closure of several smuggling routes. The closed points included al-Matlaba in the al-Qasr region of Hermel and various crossing points in Baalbek.
