Kümbet

The word is borrowed from Persian and Middle Persian (Pahlavi) kubbe, meaning "dome" or "arch," from the term gunbad (گنبد). It has been noted that this term shares a common root with kubbtā, derived from the Aramaic and Syriac root kbb, which carries the same meaning. In Turkish, historical usage has been recorded in the forms "günbed," "künbet," and kümbet.

• Monumental and Independent Structure Type: In traditional architecture, it is preferred for naming independent monumental structures with a circular or polygonal body and a conical, pyramidal, or dome-shaped roof, particularly those from the Seljuk period.
• Tomb and Burial Culture: Due to the predominant use of domes in the upper sections of tomb structures, the term has undergone semantic expansion and is frequently used in historical, biographical, and endowment texts to directly mean "grave," "mausoleum," or "eternal resting place."
