The purpose of the castle was to secure the strait after the conquest of Istanbul and to provide protection against possible naval attacks. The castle was named Kilitbahir, meaning “Lock of the Sea,” due to its strategic importance. The castle was designed in the shape of a three-leaf clover, making it one of the most advanced defensive structures of its time. The main tower has seven floors and is supported by surrounding walls. Inside the castle, there are rooms for soldiers to stay, ammunition depots, and cisterns. The outer walls are surrounded by moats, creating an additional layer of defense. During the restoration process, the original architectural structure of the castle was preserved, and the stonework and walls were repaired in accordance with the original design.
