Kars province's district of Kağızman is a settlement located in the Aras Valley, notable for its natural beauty. Surrounded by high mountains, this district resembles a hidden corner filled with orchards.
Where is Kağızman?
Kağızman is located in eastern Türkiye, 76 kilometers from the city center of Kars. It has an area of 1972 square kilometers and an elevation ranging between 1100 and 1600 meters above sea level. It borders Kars center to the north, Tuzluca to the east, Sarıkamış to the west, and Ağrı to the south.
From the Most Ancient Times to the Present
The history of Kağızman extends back to the Paleolithic era, long before humans adopted a settled lifestyle. Stone hand axes dating back thousands of years have been found on the slopes of Yazılıkaya and Tombultepe in Camuşlu Village.

A Journey Through Time
Approximately 12,000 years ago, the people living in the Kurbanağa Cave in Kağızman painted animal figures and hunting scenes on the cave walls. These paintings provide important insights into life during that era. Throughout history, the district has been home to many different states. In 1534, during the reign of Kanuni Sultan Süleyman, it was incorporated into the Ottoman Empire. Historical structures such as Keçivan Kalesi preserve traces of the region’s past.

The Famous Kağızman Apricot
One of the most notable associations with Kağızman is the "Uzun Kayısı" or Long Apricot. This variety is distinguished by its unique shape and grows nowhere else in the world except this region. Moreover, the district’s climate is highly suitable for cultivating many fruits such as apples and mulberries. Kağızman, with its fertile lands irrigated by the Aras River, thousands of years of rock paintings, and distinctive fruits, is one of Türkiye’s important cultural and natural centers.
