## Article Content

[Ilıca](/en/detay/ilica/llms.txt) Waterfall is a significant natural formation located in the Ilıca Village of Pınarbaşı district, in [Kastamonu](/en/detay/kastamonu-2/llms.txt) province, within the Black Sea Region of Turkey. The waterfall is formed by the Zarı Stream, which descends 10 meters from the steep slopes of the [Horma Canyon](/en/detay/horma-canyon/llms.txt), creating a natural pool surrounded by lush vegetation. Situated near [Küre](/en/detay/kure-3/llms.txt) Mountains National Park, Ilıca Waterfall holds great importance for ecotourism activities in the region​.

### **Location and Accessibility**

Ilıca Waterfall is approximately 91 kilometers from Kastamonu city center and 11 kilometers from Pınarbaşı district center. There are two main routes to reach the waterfall:

- **Via Ilıca Village**: Visitors can reach the waterfall by **walking approximately 15 minutes** on a dirt path from Ilıca Village.
- **Via Horma Canyon Platform**: A **3-kilometer wooden walkway** leads directly to the waterfall​.

Private vehicles are commonly used for transportation. Visitors typically park their cars in the designated parking area and continue on foot using either the wooden walkway or the dirt path.

### **Physical and Hydrological Features**

Ilıca Waterfall is fed by the Zarı Stream, which flows from Horma Canyon. The water falls from a height of 10 meters, forming a large natural pool [at](/en/detay/at-3/llms.txt) its base, which attracts visitors, especially in summer for cooling off. The stream continues through Ilıca Village, joins the Devrekâni River, and ultimately flows into the Black Sea via Valla Canyon​

The region experiences a transitional climate between the Black Sea and Central Anatolian climates. The average annual temperature is 10.3°C, with the hottest month being [July](/en/detay/july/llms.txt) (20.8°C) and the coldest being January (-0.4°C). The area receives [an](/en/detay/an-2/llms.txt) average annual rainfall of 430.9 mm, with the highest precipitation occurring in spring and summer.​

### **Geological and Ecological Structure**

The area is part of the Daday-Azdavay massif, a significant geological formation. The bedrock consists of garnet mica schist, amphibolite, phyllite, quartz schist, and metacarbonate rocks. The surroundings are covered with brown forest soils, supporting diverse vegetation.

Common tree species in the region include:

- **Uludağ fir** (*Abies bornmuelleriana*)
- **Oriental beech** (*Fagus orientalis*)
- **Black pine** (*Pinus nigra*)
- **Scots pine** (*Pinus sylvestris*)
- **Alder** (*Alnus glutinosa*)
- **Linden** (*Tilia rubra subsp. caucasica*)​

Due to its humid and rainy climate, the area boasts rich vegetation, particularly dense forests surrounding the natural pool at the base of the waterfall.

### **Tourism and Ecotourism Potential**

Located within Küre Mountains National Park, Ilıca Waterfall is an important ecotourism destination. The area offers 14 bungalows with a total accommodation capacity of 56 beds. Additionally, there are designated camping areas for visitors who prefer tent camping​

Other notable natural attractions in the area include:

- Horma Canyon: A 4-kilometer wooden walkway allows visitors to explore the canyon.
- Valla Canyon: Considered the second deepest canyon in the world.
- Çatak Canyon: Known for its high cliffs and unique geological formations.
- Ilgarini Cave: A natural cave containing prehistoric settlement remains​.
