### **History**

Hacı Bekir was founded in 1777 by Hacı Bekir Efendi, who came to Istanbul from the town of [Araç](/en/detay/arac-3/llms.txt) in [Kastamonu](/en/detay/kastamonu-2/llms.txt). He started producing and selling sweets such as Turkish delight and akide candy in a small shop in Bahçekapı. During that period, honey and molasses were used as sweeteners, and flour was used as a binder. However, Hacı Bekir Efendi introduced a pioneering approach by using refined sugar and starch imported from Europe in his production.
