## Article Content

The lava columns in [Güzelcehisar Village](/en/detay/guzelcehisar-village-34a6f/llms.txt), located 17 kilometers from [Bartın](/en/detay/bartin-province/llms.txt) city center, are a natural formation estimated to be 80 million years old. These columns rise like a wall from the sea, starting from the western end of the 850-meter sandy beach of the Güzelcehisar coast and extending along the seashore to Mugada. [Güzelcehisar Lava Columns](/en/detay/guzelcehisar-lava-columns-bartin-7ede4/llms.txt) is a rare natural wonder that can be seen only in Bartın, Türkiye, and in four other places in the world. It was declared a [Natural Monument](/en/detay/guzelcehisar-basalt-columns-natural-monument-b15d4/llms.txt) in 2017.

### **Archaeological Studies**

Guzelcehisar has historical values as well as natural beauties. In the village, there is a historical castle as important as [Amasra Castle](/en/detay/amasya-castle-f40b6/llms.txt), and its bastions can still be seen. Bartın University Archaeology Department plans to carry out excavations in this region with the necessary permissions from the ministry. There are also many historical sites, such as the village's historical cemeteries. With these studies, it is aimed to bring the historical richness of the region to light.

### **Tourism Project**

The landscape application project for tourism and recreation purposes of the lava columns and the coast in Güzelcehisar has been prepared with the aim of bringing the region to both national and world tourism. The project is a joint effort of the Western Black Sea Development Agency (BAKKA), Special Provincial Administration, Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, and Bartın University. The main purpose of the project is to raise awareness about the lava columns in the region and to enable visitors to better experience the natural beauties. In this context, it is planned to build walking paths, seating areas, and observation terraces. It is also planned to organize a festival once a year to raise awareness about the lava pillars.
