## Article Content

The ethmoid bone is a thin and complex bone located at the front of the skull . Located at the front of the brain, this bone, located between [the nasal](/en/detay/burun-d9b40/llms.txt) cavity and the eye socket, provides the structural integrity of the skull. The ethmoid bone determines the boundaries between the nasal and eye paths, and also contains nerve and vascular passages. The ethmoid bone, which has an [important](/en/detay/onemli-0325c/llms.txt) place in human anatomy, serves as a critical organ that provides support for the brain and other structures of the head.

### **Structural Features**

The ethmoid bone is a very thin and light bone that acts as a [bridge](/en/detay/kopru-3/llms.txt) between the orbit, the nasal cavity, and the front of the skull . This bone consists of three [main](/en/detay/ana-751169/llms.txt) parts: the lamina cribrosa, the lamina papyracea, and the perpendicular plate.

#### **Ethmoid Bone Parts**

1. **Lamina Cribrosa** : Located on the upper part of the ethmoid bone, this section contains the openings through which the olfactory nerves that go from the nasal cavity to the brain pass. It also helps ensure smooth airflow in the nasal cavity.
2. **Lamina Papiracea** : This part of the eye socket forms the area where the eye muscles and nerves pass. It is a part of the wall surrounding the eyes and provides movement of the eye muscles.
3. **Perpendicular Plate** : Forms part of the septum of the nasal cavity and defines the midline of the nasal passage. This structure reinforces the partition between the two nostrils.

### **Functions**

The ethmoid bone performs a number of important functions, most notably the nasal functions. This bone plays a critical role in [olfaction](/en/detay/koku-2/llms.txt) , organization of the nasal cavity, protection of the eyes, and connection of the head to other structures.

- **Olfaction** : The lamina cribrosa plays a role in transmitting the olfactory nerves coming from the nasal cavity to the brain. In this way, the sense of smell that allows us to perceive odors begins here.
- **Eye Pathway Support** : The lamina papyracea surrounds the eye socket and helps the eye muscles move smoothly.
- **Nasal Cavity Organization** : The perpendicular plate is located in the middle of the nasal passage and supports the nasal septum. It also regulates air flow in the nasal cavity.
