Discovered in the early 1990s, the cave gained significant attention when it was extensively featured in *ATLAS* magazine in 1994. Mapped by the Boğaziçi University Cave Research Club (BÜMAK), Dağlı Kuyluca ranks 17th among Turkey’s deepest caves and holds the [top](/en/detay/top-2/llms.txt) position in the Black Sea region. The known depth of the cave is -290 meters, and it still contains many unexplored areas. Studies indicate that the cave’s walls and ceilings were shaped by water-induced collapses. The presence of horizontally oriented galleries within the cave supports this theory. Additionally, a water source originating from within the forest emerges about 50 meters below the cave entrance, flowing into the cave’s depths. ### **Environmental Features** The surroundings of Dağlı Kuyluca are densely forested, making the cave entrance invisible from a distance. Accessing the cave requires descending [rocky](/en/detay/rocky-750803/llms.txt) terrain. The area also features natural water channels, sinkholes, and unique geological formations known as “witches’ cauldrons,” formed by the erosive effects of water. ### **Access and Accommodation** Access to Dağlı Kuyluca is via the Kastamonu-Cide highway. After taking the road leading to Hamitli village, a marked trail leads approximately 250 meters on foot, followed by a 25-30 meter descent over rocky terrain to reach the cave entrance. Additionally, various hotels and guesthouses in Cide provide suitable accommodation options. ### **Important Considerations** Entry to Dağlı Kuyluca requires proper equipment, as the rocky surfaces remain damp and slippery even during summer. Therefore, it is essential to wear appropriate footwear and use the necessary gear before entering the cave. Caution should also be exercised when approaching the rocky areas surrounding the cave, and local guides are recommended for assistance if needed. ### **Legends** A local legend tells of a mysterious girl known as “Kuyluç Kızı” who is said to reside in the depths of the cave. As a result, young men from nearby villages tend to avoid approaching the cave. ### **Conservation Status** In 2020, Dağlı Kuyluca was officially designated as a "Natural Asset – Group B Cave" by the [Karabük](/en/detay/karabuk-2/llms.txt) Regional Commission for the Conservation of Natural Assets.
