### **Regions Where Blackcurrants Grow**

The native [habitat](/en/detay/habitat-2/llms.txt) of currants is Northern Asia and Europe, although they are also widely cultivated in regions such as North America and New Zealand. In Turkey, currants are naturally found in the highlands of Northern, Central, and Eastern Anatolia and thrive primarily in humid, temperate climates.

### **Economic and Agricultural Importance**

Currants hold value for both commercial and local uses. In Turkey, they are widely produced in the Aegean region and are utilized in the production of fruit juice, jams, and cosmetic products. Currants are suitable for cultivation in areas with [an](/en/detay/an-2/llms.txt) annual rainfall of 800 mm and well-drained clay-loam soils.

### **Pomological and Nutritional Characteristics**

Fruit sizes and weights vary between cultivars:

- **Red Lake variety**: Fruits with an average weight of 1.58 g.
- **Rovada variety**: Larger fruits, weighing an average of 1.66 g.

Blackcurrants are rich in vitamin C, vitamin A, and antioxidants, supporting the immune system. Their high anthocyanin content provides antioxidant properties, supports cardiovascular health, and [has](/en/detay/has-3/llms.txt) fatigue-delaying effects.

### **Medicinal Uses**

Currants are known for their diuretic, digestive-regulating, and immune-boosting effects. Extracts obtained from the leaves have been noted for their use in treating rheumatism and in skincare applications.

### **Effects of Blackcurrants on Sports Performance**

The anthocyanin content of currants enhances sports performance by increasing oxygen delivery to muscles. Consumption for [at](/en/detay/at-3/llms.txt) least 7 days has shown improvements in endurance sports. Additionally, it is reported to delay fatigue by promoting fat utilization in energy production.

From its botanical features to its nutritional value and health benefits, currant is a versatile plant. Agricultural production should be encouraged in countries like Turkey with climatic diversity, and it should be further utilized in the health and nutrition sectors.
