Cry

Feryat has entered Turkish from the Persian word faryād / firyād (فریاد). This term evolved from the Middle Persian form frayād, which meant “help” or “aid.” Over time in Turkish, it acquired the additional meanings of “a cry for help” as well as “a loud outcry born of pain, fear, and helplessness.”

• Everyday Language: Used to express shouts arising in moments of pain, fear, shock, or helplessness.
• Literature and Poetry: Frequently employed to convey emotional intensity, inner turmoil, and spiritual suffering.
• Social Discourse: Expresses complaints and appeals for help raised in response to injustice, poverty, or oppression.
• Religious and Sufi Texts: Used to signify a believer’s plea for aid during times of distress or a spiritual lament.
