The onyx extracted from the Çermik area of Sivas stands out for its patterns, light transmittance, and durable structure. This stone, also known as "tiger onyx", is five to six times more expensive than ordinary marble.

Reserves in the region are sufficient for 100 years of extraction. The reserves extend 1 kilometer in length, 60 meters in width, and 40 meters in depth. Sivas region onyx contains two or three major veins. Due to the region’s cold climate, onyx extracted from the mine may crack from exposure to low temperatures; therefore, production is carried out on order.

Onyx mined in Sivas is exported worldwide, primarily to India, China, and Italy, generating annual exports worth 8 million US dollars. It is used in luxury construction projects, especially in the lobbies of high-end hotels.
