Beşiktaş Gymnastics Club, founded in 1903 in Istanbul, is one of Turkey's well-established sports clubs. ### **History**

In the autumn of 1902, 22 young [men](/en/detay/men-2/llms.txt) gathered in the garden of the mansion of Medina Governor [Osman](/en/detay/osman-2/llms.txt) Pasha in Beşiktaş Serencebey District and began practicing gymnastics. This group officially founded Beşiktaş Gymnastics Club in 1903.

The club's first president was Mehmet Şamil [Bey](/en/detay/bey-5/llms.txt). Initially, it was active in gymnastics, wrestling, boxing, fencing, and athletics. In 1911, the club officially established its football branch. During this period, Ahmet Şerafettin Bey (Şeref Bey), the president and founder of the Valideçeşme football team, joined Beşiktaş with his players. The club's full entry into football came with the Istanbul "Turkish Sports Union League" championship in the 1919-1920 season.
