It is formed by the combination of the Arabic word bard, meaning 'cold', and acuz, meaning 'the final part or rear end of something'. Although commonly known among the people as 'old woman's cold', this name actually arose from a confusion between the Arabic word 'acuz' (final part) and 'acûz' (old woman).
