## Article Content

Located in the Tepebağ district of [Adana](/en/detay/adana-78bcd/llms.txt), [Bebekli Kilise](/en/detay/bebekli-kilise-8250d/llms.txt) was established in 1881 under the authority of the [Vatican](/en/detay/vatikan-2/llms.txt) and built by Italian Catholics. The church has served as an important religious center where many communities from different Christian denominations have worshiped.

### **Architectural Features and Statue**

Atop the church stands a 2.5-meter-tall bronze statue of the Virgin Mary, which resembles a baby and is the reason the church is called "Bebekli Kilise." The interior decoration features rich iconography, paintings depicting the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, and numerous symbols unique to Catholic rituals.

### **Social Services**

In the past, Bebekli Kilise hosted social institutions such as two schools, a hospital, and an orphanage. However, these institutions have since closed.

The flags of the Pope and Turkey are displayed side by side inside the church. The priest and his assistant lead the services wearing symbolic vestments and performing rituals.
