## Article Content

The [Abyssinian cat](/en/detay/abyssinian-cat-d72c4/llms.txt) is one of the oldest breeds of cats. Although it takes its name from [Abyssinia](/en/detay/habesli-kedisi-f80f6/llms.txt), the former name of Ethiopia, where its first specimens were brought to England, genetic studies show that its origin lies in Southeast Asia and the coasts of the Indian Ocean. This indicates that the Abyssinian cat historically spread to different regions via sea routes. Although it is thought to be connected to Egyptian cats, modern genetic data do not support this connection. Its modern form was developed in England in the 19th century and was officially recognized in the United Kingdom in 1929. It is currently a widely kept cat breed.

### **Physical Characteristics**

It has a medium-sized, muscular, and balanced structure. The body is agile and athletic. The head is slightly triangular in shape. The eyes are almond-shaped. The ears have a wide base and are upright. The legs are long and muscular; the feet are oval-shaped and appear compact.

The coat is short and “ticked”; the fur has different color bands. The fur is shiny and healthy. Common colors include ruddy (reddish brown), red, blue, cinnamon, and fawn. Weekly brushing is recommended.

[TICA](/en/detay/cat-7bc46/llms.txt) and CFA standards define the physical and behavioral characteristics of the Abyssinian cat. In TICA standards, it is described as a colorful and lively cat; the body structure has a slightly arched back and a straight abdomen. In CFA standards, it is medium-sized, elegant, and muscular in build.
