### **Historical Background**

The 57th Infantry Regiment played a critical role during the [Battle of Gallipoli](/en/detay/battle-of-canakkale-1314b/llms.txt). On the morning of April 25, 1915, following the Anzac landing at Arıburnu, the regiment immediately sprang into action on [Mustafa Kemal](/en/detay/ataturk-fee48/llms.txt)'s orders and engaged in fierce fighting on the hills of Conkbayırı and Kocaçimen. The regiment put up fierce resistance in the early days of the war, with nearly all of its members falling as [martyrs](/en/detay/akbas-martyrs-memorial-and-cemetery-4cbb5/llms.txt), yet it managed to halt the enemy's advance.

### **Structure and Architectural Features of the Martyrs' Memorial**

The martyrs' memorial serves as a monument symbolizing the heroism of the 57th Regiment. At the center of the site stands a monument made of white marble. On the monument, there is a depiction of the regiment's flag waving. Around the martyrdom, there are symbolic graves of soldiers who lost their lives in the war and information panels.

At the entrance to the martyrs' cemetery, there is an inscription of Mustafa Kemal's words to the 57th Regiment: “I am not ordering you to attack, I am ordering you to die!” This statement is a historical document reflecting the regiment's sacrifice and the intensity of the war.

Additionally, within the memorial, there are symbolic graves dedicated to Lieutenant Colonel Hüseyin Avni Bey, the commander of the 57th Regiment, and other officers. The structure has been designed with a simple yet monumental architectural style and is harmoniously integrated into the natural landscape.
