Yakamoz (Child)
What Is Yakamoz?
Yakamoz is a remarkable glow that appears on the sea surface during a dark night. But this light is not the reflection of the moon! In fact, there are extremely small marine organisms so tiny that they can only be seen under a microscope. These minute creatures emit light when the sea is agitated or when something touches them. When it is dark and no other light is present, we can see this shimmering glow.

Some fishermen can easily spot fish thanks to yakamoz. In the absence of moonlight, yakamoz reveals the location of fish. Therefore, fishermen surround the fish with nets to catch them. However, when there is moonlight, yakamoz is not clearly visible; in such cases, fishermen use other methods.

The tiny light-emitting organisms are called Noctiluca scintillans. These organisms live in the sea and emit light as they move. They are so small that they can only be separated from water using a fine mesh or lens. These minute creatures reproduce both by division and by aggregating together.

Yakamoz helps certain fish find their way in the sea. However, if these organisms multiply excessively, they can reduce the oxygen levels in the water. Therefore, balance is essential.
